Inspector Craig Mattinson also allegedly kissed a 17-year-old girl
A well-respected community inspector is facing a misconduct hearing over allegations he touched a 14-year-old girl and kissed another teenager.
Craig Mattinson has been the Neighbourhoods Inspector for Humberside Police in west Hull for several years tackling all sorts of crime and he is also a qualified detective with nearly 25 years’ service. But his career could end in disgrace if allegations against him are proven.
He will face a police misconduct hearing later this month where he will face two serious allegations. The alleged breaches took place more than 15 years ago. The hearing will take place at the Magistrates’ Court building in Goole from February 20 until 23.
The first allegation is that, between April 2003 and April 2005, Insp Mattinson engaged in contact with a 14-year-old girl, both on and off duty, which was unprofessional, sexual and/or inappropriate in nature.
In particular, he is alleged to have contacted the girl by phone without a legitimate policing purpose. He is also alleged to have visited her and touched her over clothing.
The second allegation says that, in or around 2004, Insp Mattinson engaged in contact with a 17-years-old girl – who was living with the 14-year-old girl relating to the first allegation – both on and off duty, which was unprofessional, sexual and/or inappropriate in nature.
In particular, Insp Mattinson is alleged to have contacted the 17-year-old by phone and visited her without a legitimate policing purpose. He also took her by car to his home, touched her and kissed her.
If proven, the conduct of Insp Mattinson breaches the standards of professional behaviour relating to discreditable conduct and amounts to gross misconduct.
A second former police officer also faces a misconduct hearing this month. Daniel Whitehead, a former police constable, faces allegations around his social media conduct. It is alleged that Mr Whitehead’s behaviour has fallen below the Standards of Professional Behaviour.
It is alleged that, between September 2021 and March 2022, Mr Whitehead posted inappropriate, grossly offensive in nature and sexually explicit content to a personal social media profile that identified him as a police officer and which was publicly accessible.
On another occasion, in or around September or October 2022, he was on duty and without invitation or warning, showed colleagues a photo of a naked man.
If proven, his conduct amounts to gross misconduct (whether individually or cumulatively) in that he has behaved in a manner which breaches the following Standards of Professional Behaviour. The hearing will take place at the Magistrates’ Court building in Goole on February 13.
