Humberside Police officer who reported colleague for sending her explicit Snapchat video is fired after lying about their relationship

A Humberside Police officer who lied about her relationship with a colleague when he sent her an explicit video on Snapchat has been fired.

Special Sergeant Heather Spayne, 24, complained to the force’s professional standards department when she was sent the clip from the man – known as Officer G.

She, however, failed to disclose her relationship with Officer G when he was investigated, a misconduct hearing was told.

Miss Spayne, who joined Humberside Police in 2019, made her complaint to professional standards in May 2020 after Officer G sent the video of himself.

During the subsequent investigation, Miss Spayne claimed her and Officer G were “just friends”.

Officer G said the pair were together for several months until Miss Spayne told him she was with someone else.

Miss Spayne, who did not attend the misconduct hearing earlier this month, originally denied there was any relationship or that she had given Officer G that impression.

But messages to another policeman referred to her having “been dumped” by Officer G, the hearing was told.

A misconduct hearing earlier this month found that Ms Spayne had deliberately misled standards officials.

She has now been dismissed from the force with immediate effect for gross misconduct.

Panel chair Natalie Wortley said Miss Spayne’s actions were “deliberate and planned” and could have brought an end to Officer G’s career.

She said that Spayne had shown no “genuine remorse or insight” and her actions had breached standards of professional behaviour in respect of honesty and integrity.
